A small desk with a long view over northern strategy
Northbirchgames began with a handful of friends who kept comparing notes about the browser strategy games they were playing between work and winter. One had a Viking clan, one was building a sprawling empire in Imperia Online, another was quietly running a merchant castle in KingsAge. The conversations were better than most reviews we could find, so we started writing them down.
Our focus is deliberately narrow: free-to-play strategy games of northern kingdoms, medieval empires and clan warfare that run in a browser. That focus lets us play each game properly, for weeks rather than an afternoon, inside real clans and alliances on live servers. We would rather review six games honestly than sixty games badly.
We write for players who enjoy slow-burning strategy and the social life of a good clan, whether they are newcomers looking for a first banner or veterans searching for a fresh realm. Many of our readers play on laptops after the dishes are done, and that is exactly how we play too.
Our guide character, Halvard, is the desk’s shorthand for good habits: scout first, keep the queues full, respect your clan. He shows up across the site to point readers toward the realm that suits them, and he has strong opinions about anyone who marches without a report.
Play long, then speak
We review only games we have played for weeks on fresh accounts, inside clans and alliances, because the genre reveals itself slowly and first impressions mislead.
Score the free experience
Our scores are built on free play. We note where spending accelerates progress and explain how much patience can substitute for it in each realm.
Rewrite, don’t quietly patch
When a game changes in ways that matter, we replay and rewrite the affected sections openly, so readers can see what moved and why.
